Walking in the Region du Verdon is truly breathtaking. There are many hiking trails through the area with various levels of difficulty. The marked hiking tours are available for hikers as well as for seasoned hikers. Of course the first challenge is a walk to the church on the rock of Castellane where you will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the Verdon valley. Spectacular is le Sentier Martel (the Martel trail). This route is named to the French speleologist Édouard-Alfred Martel who was in 1905 the first person who explored and mapped the jagged ravines.
